Album title? Elementary Carnival Blues

Where did the title of your new album come from? It just popped into my head one day. Pretty sure I was driving, which is where most of my thinking gets done. It just arrived, intact, looking for a home.

How many releases do you have now? This is my first solo record. I had a few with The Daisygrinders. It's a marathon, not a sprint.

How long did it take to write/record? It took about a decade in the writing, perhaps longer, and three years in recording and mixing. It wasn't perfectionism (much), just emblematic of my poor logistical skills.

Was anything in particular inspiring you during the making? It was pretty amazing, working with the cast of musicians I put together, so I'd have to point to that. But each song had a life of its own, so there was no common muse.

What's your favourite song on it? That's like asking which child you love most. Obviously you have one but you shouldn't say. (It's Western Electric).

Will you do anything differently next time? I won't take three years. The record started out as a glorified demo tape, so it needed a long time to evolve into something like an album.

When and where is your launch/next gig? The album launch is happening at the Marrickville Bowling Club this Saturday 19 March. Supports are Den Hanrahan & The Roadsiders and Not Good With Horses.
