Sydney’s Kent Street has gained a hidden gem with the opening of Vinabar, a 32-seater microbar inspired by the vibrant nightlife and bar culture of Vietnam.

Co-owners Reymark Tesalona and Ashwin Arumugam have carefully crafted an intimate space that pays homage to their shared experiences travelling through Vietnam and Southeast Asia.

Tucked away behind a clever facade resembling a banh mi street cart, Vinabar's entrance leads patrons into a world of Southeast Asian aesthetics. Imported silk lanterns from Hoi An illuminate the space, while sleek black marble tabletops and bar shelving inspired by the Golden Hand Bridge of Da Nang create an alluring atmosphere.

The microbar's concept, rooted in storytelling, aims to create a tangible and memorable experience for its diverse clientele.

"Being able to cater to such a diverse audience in a confined space allows us to translate our lived experiences into something tangible and memorable," Tesalona explained.

"Our cocktails transcend all barriers, be it cultural, age, ethnicity, gender – giving us a medium to tell a story by using all our human senses, not just taste."

Vinabar's cocktail menu steals the spotlight, featuring unique concoctions that blend traditional Vietnamese flavours with a modern twist. The 'Vinagroni,' a take on the classic negroni, is topped with a dehydrated starfruit, resembling the Vietnamese flag.

Another standout is the 'Da Nang,' a delightful mix of cognac, pineapple, coconut, and a mint and pandan foam, crafted with a whipped cream charger.

"Our cocktails are more than just drinks; they are a sensory journey that allows us to share our passion for Southeast Asian culture with the world," says Arumugam.

Vinabar opens its doors seven days a week from 4 pm until 2 am, inviting patrons to indulge in late-night adventures and is located at Shop 1, 332 Kent Street, Sydney.
