Q & A: Bemba

A quick chat with Bemba before their World Music Wednesdays gig at The Basement tonight.

Name: Bemba

What the best venue – anywhere in the world – you've played? Hard to say, we've all had such varied individual experiences. we love playing at the basement because of its history in the Sydney scene... it's a place people flock to for great live music.

Is there one country you particularly love performing in? not one in particular!

What part of the world has had the most influence on you, musically? South America and the Carribean. Cuba, Brasil and Colombia predominantly amongst others.

Where have you experienced music really impacting and influencing a culture? Everywhere.

When it comes to your band – is more always better? In our music, where rhythm is key, it's easy to want to add and add, but we're less is more.

What's one instrument you wish you could master? Drums!

Do you have any pre-gig rituals? Everyone has their own personal rituals, some that should never be spoken of.

What's your favourite food dish? Jamaican jerk chicken with rice and peas.

Can you recommend us a drink at the bar? The one with alcohol in it is really nice :)
