Hudson Mohawke

Hudson Mohawke

Ross Matthew Birchard (born 11 February 1986), better known by the stage name Hudson Mohawke, is a Scottish-American producer, composer, and DJ from Glasgow. He is known for his influential work in 21st century hip-hop and electronic music. A founding member of the UK label collective LuckyMe, his fractured, colorful take on hip-hop made him a leading figure in the late-2000s wonky scene. He released his debut album Butter in 2009 on Warp Records. He has followed with the solo albums Lantern (2015) and Cry Sugar (2022), both on Warp.

Birchard is also one-half of the duo TNGHT with Canadian producer Lunice; their influential eponymous EP was released in 2012. That year, Birchard signed with Kanye West's G.O.O.D. Music production team, contributing to the label compilation Cruel Summer (2012) and West's LP Yeezus (2013). He subsequently became an in-demand producer, working with artists such as West, Pusha T, Drake, A$AP Rocky, Lil Wayne, Anohni, and Danny L Harle. In 2022, Birchard's 2011 song "Cbat" became an Internet meme and went viral on social media.

Mixtape: Hudson Mohawke, Valentine’s Day Slow Jams VIII
Stream / download a steamy new mix from Scottish loverman HudMo.. "Lay back, and let Hudson Mohawke take you away..." 29-year-old Glasgwegian producer Hudson Mohawke, the producer and one half of TNGHT, has been busy working on a follow up to his Chimes EP, and has also been putting in work producing for Foals frontman Yannis Philippakis, and singer Antony Hegarty, producing Hegarty’s album. "The album I’m producing for Anthony is really cool as fuck," he told NME recently. But he’s not been too busy to neglect a very special tradition: for eight years now, HudMo has released a love-themed mix on Valentines’ Day every year; and it’s always a corker. Slow Jams VIII is no different: kicking off with a big, jazzy, live-sounding version of Can’t Hide Love by the original casanova D'Angelo, the mix also features Klymaxx, Bill Withers and Stephanie Mills: it’s the perfect mix between slinky disco grooves, Whitney Houston style big pop, and soulful R & B – with a bunch of gunshots and HudMo I

New Music: Four Tet - Parallel Jalebi (Hudson Mohawke Remix)
Download Hudson Mohawke's awesome contribution to LuckyMe’s advent calendar.. The 2013 Four Tet album that this track comes off, Beautiful Rewind, is an all time favourite of mine. Packed with introspective, oddball, tech house-flavored beats, I like how Four Tet favours more experimentation on it a heap more than his other releases. Glasgow native / Kanye West collaborator Hudson Mohawke's taken one of the spacier tracks from that album, Parallel Jalebi, and injected some energy into it, and sharpened its abstract edges. The track's been released for a record label and artist collective from his hometown, Lucky Me, who each year put out a music advent calendar, releasing brand new rarities, alternate versions, and exclusives that span the sound of the LuckyMe family. One each day for free download for every day of December until Christmas - by the end it's a nice 25-track compilation. New Music - Hudson Mohawke, 'Chimes' Remix
Pusha T, Future, French Montana, and Travi$ Scott do over Hudson Mohawke's 'Chimes'.. 28 year-old Glaswegian tyke Hudson Mohawke makes earth-shaking, maximalist electronic bangers and devastates pretty much every building he's asked to play in. A few months ago he released his first proper solo record since 2009's Butter - dropping the Chimes EP on Flying Lotus' Warp Records label. Packed tight with spectacular synthwork and brass bad-assery, the four tracks sit somewhere between experimental and danceable, and whilst at four tracks in length it might not be a feast, there's certainly plenty enough to blow your mind in there. The cover art's a trip, too. Yung HudMo's no stranger to the rap world: as one half of the triumphant TNGHT duo, his unreleased track R U Ready formed the backbone of Blood On The Leaves, a huge number off Kanye West's Yeezus (there's a good read about HudMo's work with Yeezus over at Pitchfork). HudMo went on to rack up production credits on Kanye's I Am a God, D
