Donny Benet

Donny Benet is almost certainly not going to be everyone’s cup of tea. It is stylised to the point where it could quite easily be thought of as parody.

Benét proves there is still life left in his exploration of the naive technology of the 1980s and, by wisely allowing the focus to shift from his persona to the instruments, has produced a surprisingly infectious and endearing album of electro-pop music.

Getting some tips from the Sophisticated Lover himself, Izzy Tolhurst chats to Donny Benét ahead of the release of his sophomore album.

Benét of his humble beginnings before pondering how best to describe his sound. “I guess it’s Miami Vice meets Prince meets Rick James meets ‘80s Australiana…” he laughs.
