Set to hit the country next year for Splendour In The Grass and some headline shows, US heavyweights Queens Of The Stone Age have announced an indigenous band as the support act for their first concert of the tour.

As ABC reports, the Lonely Boys, formed in the Ngukurr community in South East Arnhem Land, will open for QOTSA in Darwin on 16 July.

While the gig is undoubtedly the six-piece rock outfit's biggest to date, frontman Ambrose Daniels admitted he hadn't heard of QOTSA before getting the call-up.

"Tell you the truth, my music came straight from the bush and I never heard of Queens of the Stone Age," Daniels told ABC.

"But I did research on YouTube and I noticed they're the biggest band in the world."

Lonely Boys reportedly only play three shows a year and very rarely practise.

"The only time we practise is when we get up on the stage, we just borrow scraps and whatever we can to practise and perform."

The support announce comes weeks after Lonely Boys launched their first EP, The Hunter, at Barunga Festival earlier this month.
