Following the huge success of last year's inaugural Hardest 100, the heavy metal music countdown is back and you can start voting right now.

While last year's debut countdown, which saw Architects' Doomsday come in at #1, gave listeners the opportunity to vote for their favourite heavy metal song of all time, this year's Hardest 100 will focus on songs released in 2018 (released as singles or as part of albums released between 1 January 2018 - 31 January 2019).

The 2019 live countdown will kick off at midday AEDT on Saturday 2 March through 24/7 streaming radio station The Faction, one week out from the annual Download Festival.

"This is the year that I think that fans of heavy music are going to draw a line in the sand and let everyone know that they are a community that isn't to be ignored and cannot be denied," The Faction's Tim Price said.

"Fans in the heavy music community know great music and I can't wait to see what comes out on top this year.

"Last year's countdown was incredible and it showed that there are thousands of heavy music fans out there who want more representation and recognition for their favourite artists and we are bringing that to them!"

Sydney and Brisbane fans are also invited to attend official countdown parties in their respective cities at the home of heavy music in Australia, Crowbar.

All voters will go into the draw to win a bunch of heavy music prizes, including one double pass to Download Festival Melbourne 2019 and one double pass to Download Festival Sydney, five $50 24Hundred vouchers, a double pass to this year's BIGSOUND festival in Fortitude Valley, a $250 Oztix voucher and The Faction merch packs.

Winners will be announced at the conclusion of the countdown on 2 March.
