Now That We Know Who's Going To Splendour, Here Are The Acts We Can't Wait To See

It's the most wonderful time of the year - the Splendour In The Grass line-up is here! Now that we've calmed ourselves and taken a breath, The Music team have looked back over the list and chosen our must-sees for this year's festival. 

SZA 

SZA's 2017 debut album CTRL was scored her a Grammy nom for Best Urban Contemporary Album. She's since collaborated with last year's SITG headliner Kendrick Lamar on the also Grammy nominated All The Stars and appeared in the video clip for the Grammy winning This Is America video alongside fellow Splendour act Childish Gambino. SZA is a big damn deal, don't miss her.

The Beths

They won us over with their 2018 album Future Me Hates Me but we really fell in love with them with their version of Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas (and its simultaneously most adorable and heartbreaking video). We'll be wanting to lame this NZ act as our own (à la Crowded House) in no time.

Dermot Kennedy

Dermot Kennedy is an artist fast on the rise. Almost a year ago to the day the Irish songwriter performed his debut shows in Australia before returning less than a year later this past January to perform in rooms that were more than double the size and sold out. In that time, he was praised as one of SXSW 2018's most talked-about acts, he's performed on 'Colbert' and 'Ellen' and he's released his debut album. If you haven't listened to Kennedy's music yet WHAT ARE YOU DOING? But it's OK, Splendour can help with that. You're welcome.

Santigold 

"Woah oh ohhhhhh" was us when we saw Santigold announce she's coming back to Aus. With tracks like Can't Get Enough Of Myself and Disparate Youth, Santigold's exclusive Aus set is going to be HUGE.

Childish Gambino

HELL. YES. IT'S. FINALLY. HAPPENING!

Courtney Barnett

Local woman does extremely good. Barnett's playing some of the biggest festivals around the world - catch her while she's back in Aus for a hot second.

Kaiit

She's got the Jill Scott tick of approval so frankly you'd be mad not to see her. Kaiit's only got a few months until she takes over the world so take the time to see her now.

A Swayze & The Ghosts

If you weren't already sold by the name, you will be when you see A Swayze & The Ghosts frontman Andrew Swayze jump off the stage and into the crowd to play tambourine. You may never be the same again on a cellular and spiritual level.

The Streets 

The debut record from The Streets, aka Mike bloody Skinner, introduced the world to a fresh new attitude within his blend of musical genres. The follow-up A Grand Don’t Come For Free was an epic rap opera that told a story like we’d never heard before. Fast forward to 2011 and the band was retired. When a string of UK reunion shows were announced last year we dreamt it might make it down our way and now it has. So don't mug yourself, that's all don't mug yourself.

Dean Lewis

Dean Lewis' debut album, A Place We Knew, has busted charts all around the world, including here where it's picked up the #1 spot on the ARIA Albums Chart. Prepare for feels, like a lot of them.

Thandi Phoenix

There's a damn good reason that legendary DJ Pete Tong asked Thandi Phoenix to be a special guest on his most recent Australian tour. She'll be fresh off her debut headline run so we're sure Phoenix will be ready to bring the party at Splendour.

Chance The Rapper

In our opinion, it's been far too long between Chance The Rapper Australian shows so we are more than ready for this!

Pub Choir

Sometimes you just need a little wholesome content and Pub Choir will certainly provide this at Splendour. "No audition, no solos, no commitments, no sheet music" is the Pub Choir message so start warming up and get ready to sing along with a few thousand strangers.

Tame Impala

We were (somewhat) patient and now King Kevin has granted us a Splendour appearance. Here's to hoping Tame Impala will keep dropping surprise tracks in the meantime.

SLAVES

They were just here for the recent Download festivals and certainly gained themselves fans with their appearances. UK punk group SLAVES are a stellar addition to this year's bill. 

Broods

Trade those gumboots for dancing shoes for Broods' set because you'll be needing them.

Matt Corby

To be honest, we're thinking Matt Corby should be billed as the Pied Piper Of Splendour because as soon as those opening bars of Brother start people will be flocking to the stage. Corby's Rainbow Valley album dropped in November last year and it's sure to set a dreamy vibe all throughout the festival grounds. 

Slowly Slowly

This Melbourne four-piece had Crowbar heaving at last year's BIGSOUND and we expect their Splendour set to be no different. Check out St Leonards and learn all the words before heading along, chances are it's going to be a singalong heavy set.
