"You only need to have to look at #AusmusicTshirtDay to see just how many people have gotten around it over the years."

Ausmusic Month is well upon us and today marks a key day in the calendar - Ausmusic Tshirt Day

While it's only been running for a short time, the impact of the day is widespread with music lovers all across the country picking, washing and donning their favourite band shirt with pride each year.

“When we started Ausmusic Tshirt Day four years ago the aim was to encourage fans all over the country to support their musical heroes by throwing on an Aussie music T-shirt," explains triple j Content Director Lachie Macara

"It’s a simple idea based on the fact that merch sales are increasingly an important part of artists livelihood, and seeing the massive scale which Australia has embraced it is a real buzz.

"You only need to have to look at #AusmusicTshirtDay to see just how many people have gotten around it over the years. That’s a lot of merch bought, which means huge financial support put back into the music community; money which artists rely on to be able to tour and make the music you love."

For its fourth year though, Ausmusic Tshirt Day has an added advantage - not only will you be supporting your favourite local act, you can also support an important cause.

Triple J have this year partnered with music industry service Support Act, who assist artists and music industry workers through hardships. Both Support Act and triple j are encouraging people to not just wear their favourite shirt but to also make a much needed donation to help those they're representing.

“We are also really happy to see how our own staff, and the many artists we represent, are embracing Ausmusic T-Shirt Day, not just as a way to celebrate Australian music and rep their favourite T-shirt, but as a way of ensuring that vital services such as the Support Act Wellbeing Helpline can continue to provide much needed counselling support for the many people struggling with anxiety and depression," shared Support Act Chair Sally Howland when the partnership was announced.

"It’s a whole lotta wholesome goodness for a great cause," finishes Macara. "And you get to look pretty cool while doing it."
