Prague-born, Los Angeles-based songstress Niko Antonucci — aka Resin — has unveiled her enchanting new single, Hoarse, a foreboding, deeply alluring tune that she describes as a "song about how your mental state effects you".

With its video proudly premiering on theMusic.com.au today, Hoarse deviates from the well-travelled road of dime-a-dozen electro-pop in favour of unexpected, unsettling chords and melodies, drawing on hallmarks of genres from grunge and ambient to classical, folk and industrial music, wrapped up in an exceptionally delightful downtempo bow.

Given the song's themes and Resin's own musical proclivities, it shouldn't come as a surprise that there's an inherent darkness to Hoarse's ominous — but never offputting — strains. The tune itself comes from Resin's upcoming studio full-length, Fidget, due out next month.

Infused with an infectiousness that's hard to deny, Hoarse is an introspective adventure of muted tones and colours of both the aural and visual persuasion, director Matt Hardy choosing a mildly illuminated venue setting for the song's video.

"The idea for the song came to me after I attended a rave festival and was feeling a lot of pressure to enjoy myself," the singer said. "The song is a reflection of me feeling guilty for battling anxiety while everyone around me was just having fun.

"The intimate ambience of the venue was the perfect backdrop ... The filmmaker, Matt Hardy, was able to capture the rawness of the track with a gritty style of shooting and utilising a deep red light source."

Fidget is set to be released on 25 August; see the artist's Facebook page for more information.
