More Alae More Alae

New Zealand duo Alae followed up their 2016 self-titled debut EP with sublime new single Things Change back in February, but The Music is stoked to be premiering this never-before-seen live rendition of the track, performed and filmed in historic Auckland antique shop Real Time.

A treasure trove of retro furniture, lighting and curiosities, Real Time has been a family-owned-and-operated business for more than four decades, thriving and surviving to this day under the care of its founder, Peter Rogers.

Members Alex Farrell-Davey and Allister Meffan made history of sorts by filming this video in the store's confines, becoming the first musical act to perform in the shop, and this video arrives aptly in time for New Zealand Music Month.

"It was an honour for us to film in such an iconic location in Auckland," Farrell-Davey said. "The shop has been on Ponsonby Road for the last 40 years and has an amazing vibe. This was the first time ever that a band has performed and been filmed in there!"

The song itself — which "revolves around the monotonous melancholy that surrounds the build-up to a break-up", Farrell-Davey said in a statement — has gained considerable support from independent broadcast funding agency NZ On Air, further bolstering the band's growing renown at home and abroad.
