Beloved indie rockers Something For Kate celebrated their 20th birthday in 2014 and up until now, only punters who went to the trio's celebratory shows have seen this 15-minute mini-documentary of the band's years together.
Directed by Callum Preston, the short film was created to be screened at each of the band's sold out national shows, celebrating 20 years since their first gig at Melbourne's Punters Club. The band also released a book called Paper Trail: 20 Years Of Something For Kate at the time which Preston also worked on, compiling together a slew of SFK archival material, interviews, video clips and photos.
Speaking to The Music recently, Paul Dempsey said about the short film, "We just threw it to our friend, our friend Callum Preston who’s just great at stuff like that. We basically just gave him, you know, boxes full of digital video tapes and hard drives - just shit that’s been filmed over a long time – and kind of went, "you ah, you can tackle that one."
"And he put together this great 20-minute thing that we showed before our 20th anniversary, 20-year anniversary shows a couple of years ago."

The film discusses touring, Steph Ashworth joining the band as a bassist, recording styles and even a short, cheeky section about drummer Clint Hyndman's change of hairstyles over the years.
Dempsey explains, "Aw, I think he’s settled into himself at this point ... he looks more like Clint than he ever has, if that makes sense. You can almost date the music of the last sort of 20, 25 years and you can see which bands Clint was listening to by his hair, or whether or not he had an eyebrow ring, or a ball bearing necklace, or a beard..."
The band's look back at their 20-year history ties in nicely with their upcoming A Day On The Green dates with You Am I, Spiderbait, Jebediah and The Meanies, having grown up in the Australian alternative scene together.
