There is something deliciously subversive in calling yourself The Pop Group and making music that is challenging, bold and by all means, not made for the charts.

The reissue of 1980s odds-and-ends compilation We Are Time is seminal listening for post-punk purists. The Pop Group remain largely an obscurity, but there’s no doubt that their unique scramble of funk, guitar-rock and punk  influenced many who followed.
