"While the basic premise remains... There's still some variety."

More Kilbey Kennedy More Kilbey Kennedy

Although Steve Kilbey doesn't often shy away from a side project, his fifth album with longtime collaborator Martin Kennedy suggests that this is more than just a dalliance for The Church's eminence gris.

While the basic premise remains — Kilbey languidly philosophising over Kennedy's often lush soundscapes — there's still some variety: The Game Never Changes is a late period Bowie-flavoured conversation, while The Story Of Jonah casts a jaundiced eye on the online world, as tides of Kennedy's atmospheres wash over the flotsam being cast ashore. Admittedly, it's not an unappealing diversion for fans of either Kilbey or Kennedy, or both.
