Album Review: Gabrielle Aplin - Light Up The Dark

English singer-songwriter Gabrielle Aplin is the success story every teenager who's ever recorded their heartfelt piano covers and uploaded them online dreams of becoming.

The 22-year-old is now on the verge of sharing her full-length sophomore album with the world: an ambitious release that's louder than anything the singer has recorded before. Light Up The Dark if full of crescendos exploding with chamber-pop baroqueness and analogue production. Supposedly influenced by Joni Mitchell, the songwriting here is a noticeable improvement for Aplin and her long-time writing partner Luke Potashnick as they explore new perspectives. It's not reinventing the wheel, but Light Up The Dark bristles with energy and passion.
