Live Review: G Flip, Holiday Party

Before we meet G Flip tonight at The Zoo, we are greeted by Brisbane locals Holiday Party. We're pleasantly surprised by their professionalism on stage and they provide a great start to the night through what feels like a really energetic jam session.

What do you get when you take a boxing ring announcer-style introduction, a Beyonce Run The World (Girls) song feature, and an incredible drum solo? The start of a G Flip show. Georgia Flipo truly knows how to make an entrance, and after a very impressive instrumental jam out, the crowd is kept entertained with the first song of the night, Killing My Time.

We continue with an unreleased track, 'Real Life', that will easily slot into Flipo’s repertoire of songs that can both soothe your soul and hype you up. Following with Waking Up Tomorrow and I Am Not Afraid, we then bear witness to one of the coolest renditions of Proud Mary we have ever seen. 

The night ends with massive hits Bring Me Home and Drink Too Much. Flipo claims she hates encores, so a final performance of About You sends us home. We end on a high, which is nothing new for a G Flip show. 

There’s a magical moment when you’re watching an artist perform, and you realise you’re witnessing pure talent. Flipo owns every stage she performs on, displaying that talent on top of passion and raw emotion. She remains consistent through every performance, be it in humility, entertainment or realness.

To sum it up, Georgia Flipo is an artist, not just a musician or a singer. Providing a personal touch to every song, she explains to the crowd what it means to her, and what it can mean to them. This engagement feels genuine and she creates a true connection between her music and her audience. Ten out of ten.
