If only something from left-field broke up the straight and narrow.
It's been a three-year wait for the newbie from Leeds lads Kaiser Chiefs. A new drummer and the mixing talents of Michael Brauer have made for a more steadfast, mature approach from a band that's formerly dabbled in rousing anthems and playful song banter. The downshift is well represented in opener, The Factory Gates, singer Ricky Wilson letting those workaday pipes again act as a call to arms, with Misery Company harking back to a bit of beat-heavy, reverbed Clash-like attitude. If only something from left-field broke up the straight and narrow.
