Album Review: Trombone Shorty - Say That To Say This

Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews' third album is a mix of grooving blues-funk instrumentals with splashes of breathtaking trombone and trumpet and saccharine pop-R&B tunes dripping with generic lyrics and electric guitar.

The album blossoms towards the end with the final track, Shortyville, a clear highlight, bursting with energy and determined brass motifs. While The Meters' Be My Lady is a classic funk ballad, this rerecorded collaboration is fundamentally the same as the original and doesn't provide much originality.

Third time 'round, the New Orleans native swings pretty evenly between super impressive and cringeworthy.
