#47: Zan Rowe, Double J/ABC, Presenter/Music Correspondent
Zan Rowe has been a fixture of the triple j presenter line-up for ten years. Over that decade she has become instrumental in discovering new talent, promoting Australian music and generally nourishing the industry with her work.
When it was announced in December of last year that she would be leaving triple j for Double J, memories, praise and love flooded in for the talented DJ. Rowe made a name for herself in her hometown of Melbourne where she rose through the ranks of student station SRA FM (now SYN) before she switched cities to Sydney.
For ten years Rowe’s Mornings program was a triple j staple, with listeners religiously tuning into her most popular segment, Take 5, the 2017 series attracting everyone from Josh Homme to Amy Shark, and even an ex-Beatle (Sir Paul McCartney’s episode was Rowe’s final Take 5 on triple j).
Her dedication to the industry has seen Rowe taking almost-yearly trips to music conferences such as South by Southwest (SXSW) and Brisbane’s BIGSOUND (in 2017 she was a keynote speaker), appearing on 2017 ABCTV programs The Critics, Screen Time and The Mix and her highly praised co-hosting duties of ABC’s Countdown New Year’s special. Rowe’s musical influence is so far reaching its almost immeasurable, with over 69,000 Instagram followers, 34,000 Twitter followers and a monthly Spotify playlist that broke the 4,000 follower mark over the last 12 months.
