#45: Sebastian Chase, MGM Distribution, CEO
Sebastian Chase has been a pillar of the Australian music community for more than 40 years. A lightning force on the independent sector since co-founding MGM distributions in 1998, Chase has given countless Australian artists the boost they needed to explode onto national and international stages.
Since the 2016 opening of MGM’s US offices in Nashville, Chase and co have evolved into a world-wide force, widening the distributors reach into North America. The last 12 months have been a triumph for Chase in terms of unleashing phenomenal Australian music both nationally and internationally.
Aussie releases such as Stella Donnelly’s debut EP Thrush Metal, Cub Sport’s Bats, San Cisco’s The Water and a stack more all saw success in no small thanks to the MGM team. The jewel in the glittering crown that was Chase and MGM’s 2017 was finally releasing the first triple j Like A Version compilation to the US market.
Until August of last year, North American audiences were restricted to getting their Like A Version fix via YouTube. The record, released in partnership with ABC Music, covered a host of beloved Australian covers from artists like Meg Mac, Tame Impala and DMA’S.
