#39: Steve Cross & Harvey Saward, Remote Control, Co-Founders
Methyl Ethel
Forming a number of new partnerships over the past year, Steve Cross and Harvey Saward have further established Remote Control as one of the country’s leading record labels.
In partnering with endeavours such as Jen Cloher’s Milk! Records and The Smith Street Band’s Pool House Records, they’ve opened up a completely different avenue of upcoming talent and assisted in building strong communities within the local scene.
They also broadened their horizons by inking a deal with video game music record label Boss Battle Records, while their new joint venture with Bedroom Suck has resulted in the formation of a brand new touring company, Great Southern Land Touring Co.
2017 saw the label have its strongest and most consistent year ever on the ARIA Album Chart, with The xx and Queens Of The Stone Age both debuting at #1, while The National, The Smith Street Band, Jen Cloher and Courtney Barnett & Kurt Vile all cracked the top five. Their imprint, Dot Dash, also had a big year with Methyl Ethel’s Ubu reaching #4 on the Hottest 100 and friendships taking out AIR Awards’ Best Independent Dance/Electronica Album.
