#35: Michael & Anthea Newton, Roundhouse Entertainment, Promoters/Co-Directors
With a steady increase in attendance each year, A Day On The Green’s 2018 Robbie Williams dates are the largest in the event’s history, with a record-breaking 20,000 punters at the Mt Duneed Estate Geelong show alone.
Entering its seventeenth year in business, Roundhouse Entertainment’s flagship event now sees attendances average 200,000 annually, with around 30 concerts presented nationally for their 2017/18 season. Michael and Anthea Newton continue to curate some of the best heritage and indie line-ups around, with a strong focus on local talent. Their indie ‘90s line-ups, which last year featured You Am I, Something For Kate, Spiderbait, Jebediah and The Meanies, have been compared to the glory days of Big Day Out and Homebake (“for adults”), while iconic artists such as Stevie Nicks, Elton John, John Farnham and more have also graced the ADOTG stage in the past 12 months.
ADOTG also joined forces with RNB Fridays this past year to present RNB Vine Days across the country, which saw Boyz II Men & TLC play to sold-out crowds in wineries across four states.
In conjunction with 1-2 Entertainment, the Newtons also presented the second instalment of A Weekend In The Gardens at Melbourne’s Botanical Gardens with Paul Kelly, Illy and Missy Higgins respectively headlining the three-night event; an event that received wide praise.
ADOTG frequently give a platform to local artists too, with opening slots often going to emerging artists who get to perform in front of massive crowds. More than three million patrons have now attended the event since its inception in 2001, amazing figures for this husband and wife duo and their team.
