#19: Tim McGregor, TEG Live, Managing Director
Tim McGregor was appointed the Managing Director of TEG Live in late 2016 and in 2017 he put his 20 years previous experience (Co-Festival Director of Falls Festival, Director of the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, Group Managing Director at Dainty Group and Board Director Melbourne International Film Festival) into action.
Under McGregor, TEG Live facilitated the Chevrolet Brazil Global tour, Cirque Du Soleil’s Toruk, Spend The Night With Alice Cooper, Niall Horan’s Flicker Sessions and Grinspoon’s 20th Anniversary tour, as well as the return of Ice Hockey Classic.
TEG Live also broke new ground by bringing Intel Extreme Masters to Australia in an attempt to breach the growing international eGaming market and “position it as a legitimate sport” in this country. As he told Mumbrella, “Once that happens in this country it transcends into something which is of mainstream interest.” The idea was legitimised when more than 10,000 fans ooded the rst IEM eSports at Sydney’s Olympic Park to watch 40 professional gamers compete at Counter Strike for a pool prize of $260,000. With reports of over eight million online viewers it was the largest Australian eSports event to date and will expand to three days in 2018.
In a similarly outside step to corner a burgeoning overseas market, TEG Live partnered with Seoul-based CJ E&M to present the inaugural Australian leg of KCON. The two-day Korean pop culture and music convention brought 21,000 people to Qudos Bank Arena to watch K-pop superstars including Cosmic Girls, EXO, Girls’ Day.
In 2018 McGregor’s results should be even more impressive. Last October the live music, sport, family entertainment, and exhibitions branch of TEG partnered with Zenith Sydney, bringing an even deeper level of insight and effectiveness to the company’s ticketing and marketing strategies.
