#18: Maggie Collins, BIGSOUND, Programmer, Manager
After making her first appearance in the last Power 50 at #37, Collins remains a major player within the Australian music industry thanks to her continued work as BIGSOUND’s Executive Programmer. The 16th BIGSOUND saw Collins assembling a stellar roster of Australian and international performers, keynote speakers and representatives from international labels. The industry conference/live music showcase is now well known the world over as a launching pad for many acts with RVG, PLTS, Tia Gostelow, POW! Negro, Introvert and Carmouflage Rose just a few examples of acts picked up by labels and/or booking agents following BIGSOUND 2017.
Her previous stint as Music Director at Brisbane’s community radio station 4ZZZ and multiple jobs within triple j (Unearthed new music show Tops included) and Double J, on-air as well as in production roles - working on shows including Weekends, Home & Hosed, Good Nights and The J Files over the years - proved to be great preparation for Collins’ BIGSOUND Programmer gig, exposing her to the freshest sounds from all around the country.
Collins also somehow finds time to manage DZ Deathrays who have just dropped their third album Bloody Lovely (which debuted at #4 on ARIA Albums Chart) and continue to secure fantastic festival bookings such as the touring Falls Festival, and regularly perform internationally having played shows in China and South America for the very first time in 2017.
