Short description of your band and your music? Ruby Boots is the alter-ego of Singer/Songwriter Bex Chilcott. With a sound reminiscent of old country swagger with a modern day edge, soaring and upfront vocals and classy hooks. With a new EP in tow, Ruby Boots has just toured the nation with The Stray Sisters ,(Vikki and Donna of The Waifs), leading into the release of her anticipated debut album “Solitude” featuring a slew of musicians that are staples in Australian music today such as Davey Lane, (You Am I), Jordie Lane and Vikki Thorn, (The Waifs).

What are you hoping to achieve from showcasing at BIGSOUND? I'm really chuffed to be a part of the showcases this year, it is an exciting time for BIGSOUND, and it's an exciting time for me too – I have my debut album coming out early next year, so its good timing. I'm just hoping to play in front of as many people as I can that have travelled both internationally, nationally and locally. It's my first time playing with my new band, so it's exciting times for me to be about to unveil them and my new material too. BIGSOUND is such a great platform and domestic showcase that gives musicians that are in the earlier stages of our careers a leg-up before having to travel internationally to showcase – being so far away from the the US, UK and Europe, and being able to play in front of those people is the real advantage.

Why should people come and see you from amongst the many cool bands at BIGSOUND? 1. If they like red heads 2. If they like alt-country music and 3. If they like Ryan Adams, Lucinda Williams or Hank Williams as much as I do, then I will be at the bar waiting to nerd out and have appreciation moments on any or all said artists 4. Because my drummer is threatening to bring his one man band drum kit and play the whole set walking around the stage with it strapped to his back, which I obviously won't let happen, but I can be a push over from time to time.
