Lewis gets real in this exclusive tour diary.
Having recently located to the US, Sydney songwriter Dean Lewis has wasted no time, embarking on a tour of the States.
In this exclusive tour diary, Lewis tells us what he's been getting up to before he heads back next month for Groovin The Moo!
Here I am with Brett Dennen, who has been kind enough to let me come on this tour and open for him. I've learnt a lot from him - I love his band dynamic, his songwriting, how he has made us feel really welcome. For the last few shows, I've been coming up on stage and singing/playing electric on his song Cassidy. Legend.

This was me 30 seconds before heading on stage in Portland, Maine. I usually pace around for about 10 minutes and then try to calm myself just before I go on.
Went to Mix 105.1 and MMM at Madison, Wisconsin. I played some songs and met this little legend who wanted me to sign his guitar.
This was probably the coldest I've ever been. Standing outside the castle theatre in Bloomington, Illinois. I didn't even know this town existed, blows my mind how big this country is!
This was after my show in Seattle. It’s been really cool because, at most of the shows, half of the people who come to say hello and take a photo know me, and the other half have just heard me for the first time. It feels cool to build up a fan base from people actually seeing me play. It still blows my mind to know that people know who I am in Seattle, it's crazy.
The other thing I've been doing is completing my first album. So, here’s me sending mix notes on the sleeper bus on the road somewhere. If you think of all the things you have to do at once it's overwhelming, but I've survived it by just focusing on one song at a time!
Went in and had a chat with Jen from the Jeff & Jen show at Star 94.1 Atlanta. She actually had an incredible fake Australian accent. Best one I've heard.
Went to a Diner in Burlington, Vermont. I love the old school American diners. We don’t have much of that in Australia - So when I wake up, me and my brother get on Yelp and look for the closest one.
This is a photo of my brother, Sean, who has been my tour manager over here. It's been so cool to go through so many US cities and meet so many people. We've had the time of our lives - and the most exciting thing is it's only going to get crazier than this year!
