Fraser A. Gorman SXSW Diary: Part Four

23 March 2015 | 11:45 am | Fraser A. Gorman

There was a sorry-looking Fraser wandering through Austin on day four. He just wanted some fruit.

I dragged my sorry self out of the Sheraton at 10am feeling absolutely splintered, and wandered down to the Tumblr showcase I was playing with C Barnacle at Ironwood Hall.

The last thing we did the night before was eat a massive tray of BBQ and right now I could kill someone for a piece of goddamn fruit. But there is no fruit in downtown Austin. Only more BBQ…

After dry-reaching my way past the army of food trucks, I get to Ironwood Hall and we start setting up (when I say we, I mean to massive team of roadies set up, and I sit in a crumpled heap and try not to cry/spew).

All Aussie bill.
Me.
Jack Ladder & The Dreamlanders.
Courtney Barnett & The Courtney Barnetts.

The gig is rad. Packed house. Great venue. I meet Tim Rogers (Jack Ladder) for the first and he's a nice and really tall guy. His band mates are pretty classic too. Kirin J Callinan entertains everyone at every stage throughout the day, a few pre-gig haircuts and gags later and we cruise on. I found a fruit platter. Thank the lords of riders.

We all wandered up to the Mushroom Music Party on a rooftop. Free tins and tacos flying around and great to catch up with a few more Aussie legends. Making sure we stopped off at the vans' house with Twerps/Woody to get some more free socks. Tour luxury.

Stumble out of there.

I go see more Australian music, yes I am aware it's strange that I mostly saw Australian bands at SXSW. This time it's Luluc. They are amazing. They are based in NYC now. Zoe and Steve are two of the greatest people to meet ever. Have a listen.

Then we all end up at Courtney's show at Cedar Street, which is kinda just like a laneway party thing.

It rocks. Everyone starts slurring.

Bed. No late-night BBQ this time.
