US rapper Daz Dillinger has announced the cast of his music biopic which will focus on the rise of iconic rap stars Snoop Dogg and the late Tupac among others, even though there is speculation that Universal Pictures are working on the same kind of film, set to be a sequel to the critically acclaimed NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton.

As Hot New Hip Hop reports, Tha Dogg Pound group member initially claimed that the film he was working on was to be an official sequel to Straight Outta Compton and while shortly after Universal responded by saying they had no knowledge of the project, Dillinger has pushed ahead with it anyway.

The film in progress, believed to be titled Dogg Pound 4 Life, has named a cast that includes Curtis Young, the son of Dr Dre, who will portray his father, a la O'Shea Jackson Jr who played his own father in Straight Outta ComptonDaDa as Tupac and Reggie Knight who will play Suge Knight.

Check out some of the shots from the cast on set as posted to Dillinger's Instagram below.

Meanwhile due to the NWA biopic's success, which has topped the US and Aus box office in recent weeks, as well as broken a number of records, Universal are seriously considering a sequel to be based on the rise of the popular west coast rappers who have small cameos in the original, tentatively titled Welcome To Death Row.

If the sequel is to go ahead it will be interesting to see how the two projects move forward given how similar the directions of the films are.

Meanwhile, in an interview with theMusicIce Cube, who was in the country last week to promote the Australian release of his film, remained tight-lipped on talk of a sequel.

"Man, I'm trying to get the first one sold in Australia," the rapper laughed.
