Catch them on the road this December

More Tigertown More Tigertown

It's all happening for Sydney outfit Tigertown at the moment.

Just yesterday, they were named as tied third-placers in the 2016 Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition for their track Lonely Cities, and now they're ushering a new EP, the eagerly awaited Papernote, into the world today.

Understandably, the band seem pretty stoked with how everything's turning out for them at the moment, and they've very kindly taken the time to pen a bit of a track-by-track rundown of the EP's songs' back-stories and other information, including how their title-track remix at the hands of BØRNS and Tommy English came about.

Give the EP a spin through the handy embed below and have a read about what they had to say.

If you're keen on catching them in the flesh, you're in luck, though you have a little wait ahead: Tigertown will spend pretty much all next month hobnobbing about Europe on a sweet international tour before returning Down Under in December to play a string of shows through Geelong, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, Wollongong and Adelaide.

Tickets are on sale through Tigertown's website.

Papernote

Papernote is a really special song for us, not because of what the song's about but because of the journey it has been on and the journey it has taken us on. We wrote Papernote a couple of years ago in London with an Icelandic producer named Siggi. We were in a major transitional period, trying to find our new sound, and this song locked it in for us and has brought on many amazing opportunities. It was recorded over four different continents, had countless mixes and was almost released early last year. But it is finally out in the world and we couldn't be prouder. It's like our child who went through a really rough patch during its teenage years but has flourished into a beautiful human being.

Take Me Away (feat. Filous)

Filous is an incredible music producer from Austria who makes really beautiful music. We were lucky enough that he liked our sound and wanted to work with us. [Guitarist] Chris and [vocalist] Charlie [Collins] were doing some writing in Nicaragua at the time and returned with this cracker. Influenced by the Central American coast and night surfing, this song is a somewhat different sound for us. We finished it off with Tommy English who has produced and mixed most of our new music.

What You Do

This song is a brand new one for us. The chorus came from a track that Chris and Charlie had written in Los Angeles with song-writing legends Captain Cuts last year, and then, a couple of months ago, Chris and Charlie invited me and Elodie over to write a new song with that chorus. It was one of the first times all four of us have written a song at the same time and in the same room. It was really fun. The track is a feelgood song about wishing the good times wouldn't end.

Papernote (BØRNS X Tommy English Remix)

Along with Tommy English, BØRNS released our favourite album of last year. It's one of the reasons we ended up working with Tommy. So we did a trade-off with the guys and we remixed BØRNS' track American Money and they remixed Papernote. We are so in love with this remix, especially the new verse they wrote. We all got goosebumps when we heard BØRNS sing, "Nobody but you". It was like seeing our aforementioned "child" getting married to the perfect guy.
