That Footage Of WA Liberals 'Dancing' To Daft Punk Is Seriously Soul-crushing Stuff

Why did this happen

More Daft Punk More Daft Punk

People have done a lot of dumb things with Daft Punk's seminal hit One More Time in the decade-and-a-half since its release.

Montreal singer-songwriter Zagata, for example, took one of the world's most recognised dance-floor fillers and turned it into a sad, acoustic Jason Mraz-esque summer jam, for some reason.

Equally perplexing, a talented vocalist and obvious nerd — whose video was posted to YouTube without credit by some guy called Tom van Eijnde; nice one, Tom — spent the time turning the song into an auto-tuned a capella Brady Bunch fever dream, while trumpet player Carter Miller did the same thing with trumpets and an even greater lack of self-awareness. There are literally pages upon pages of ill-advised re-imaginings of the song, which, in case you're fixing to defend these things, was totally fine as it was.

(These 8-bit and bluegrass remakes are kind of cool though, if we're being fair.)

But all of that pales in comparison to what the Liberal Party of Western Australia did to One More Time at their election campaign launch. And they didn't even touch the song itself. All they had to do was dance. Or try to dance.

As seized upon by Twitter, Facebook, HuffPo, BuzzFeed and others — and notably featured on NSW senator Sam Dastyari's page, where he described it as "the saddest thing on the internet" (except in all caps) — please behold the soul-destroying sight of largely middle-aged politicians busting a move in a last-ditch effort to actively destroy any credibility they may have otherwise had.

Fuck, the world is grim, hey.
