Shonen Knife Announce 2024 Australian Tour

Renowned punk icons Shonen Knife (“Boy Knife” in Japanese) are one of the acts heading to MONA FOMA next year, joining Queens Of The Stone Age, TISM, Courtney Barnett and many more in Hobart on Sunday, 25 February.

As well as their stop at MONA FOMA, today, Shonen Knife announce accompanying tour dates on the Gold Coast and in Brisbane, Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Margaret River and Perth, ending their time in Australia on Saturday, 2 March. They’ll be joined by special guests to be announced at all shows – you can find the tour dates and venues below.

Shonen Knife’s upcoming Australian tour is their first since November 2019 and marks their fifth tour down under since their first stop in 1997.

In February, the band released their 20th album, Our Best Place. Shonen Knife formed in Osaka, Japan, in 1981, combining a love for 1960s girl groups, pop bands, The Beatles, and early punk rock bands into their signature sound that includes songs sung in Japanese and English and soaring melodies. Decades into their career, Shonen Knife are one of the most recognised bands in Japan and an influential indie-rock group.

“Despite being on the scene for 36 years, sisters Naoko and Atsuko Yamano are still full of boundless energy and wielded their guitars with the precision of punk rock giants,” The Music’s Phoebe Montgomery declared in a 2017 live review. Montgomery added, “Unique, adorable and incredibly talented, Shonen Knife will hopefully keep slaying the pop-punk scene for many years to come.”
