Following the success of their 2016 collaboration, Open Fire, Perth duo SLUMBERJACK have revealed they have recorded more music with Aussie music legend Daniel Johns.

Appearing on this week's episode of The Music Podcast, Morgan Thens says their work with the former Silverchair frontman led to a strong friendship and more studio time.

"Even after Open Fire, we jumped in the studio a couple of times in LA and, I think, Santa Monica and a couple times more in Sydney and just [wrote] a bunch of demos," Thens said.

"Hopefully, we'll be able to finish them. He's an amazing writer."

Discussing how Open Fire came to be, Thens admitted the pair simply rolled the dice when contacting Johns.

"When we wrote the instrumental for Open Fire, I think we spoke to eight artists and bands to do the top line. We couldn't figure out anybody," Thens recalled.

"I heard this name, Daniel Johns, for the first time because obviously I'm not an Australian native and [fellow SLUMBERJACK member Fletcher Ehlers] was like, 'You know what? Fuck it, let's try it. Let's just ask him.'

"We send an email and then [get] an email back and he's like, 'Let's do it'."

Ehlers added, "I freaked out".
