Peter Hook & The Light have announced an massive tour Down Under for next May, promising more than 20 New Order and Joy Division hits at every show.

The five-date tour will see Hook and co. perform both of the Substance compilations – “greatest hits” records released by New Order and Joy Division in 1987 and 1988, respectively – in their entirety. The albums feature New Order classics like Ceremony, Blue Monday and True Faith, as well as Joy Division gems like Love Will Tear Us Apart, Atmosphere and Transmission.

Hook’s latest band will kick things off at the Hindley Street Music Hall in Kaurna/Adelaide, playing there on Tuesday May 21 before heading to The Tivoli in Meanjin/Brisbane the following night (May 22). From there, they’ll head further down the east coast, playing at Eora/Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Friday May 24, and Naarm/Melbourne’s Forum on Saturday 25. Lastly, they’ll perform at the Astor Theatre in Boorloo/Perth on Tuesday May 28.

Tickets for all five shows go on sale at 12pm local time this Friday (August 4), with a presale starting at the same time this Wednesday (August 2). Head here for info on both sales.

Peter Hook & The Light were formed in 2010, following the second breakup of New Order in 2007. The latter band reformed once more in 2011 and have been active since, however Hook has not been involved at any point. Joy Division, on the other hand, ran for one continuous stint between 1976 and 1980.

New Order last toured Australia in 2020; in a review of their Melbourne stop, The Music’s Andy Hazel wrote that the band “offered little that was uncertain, much that was prepared and far more than they could have predicted when they booked their show at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl”.

Meanwhile, Peter Hook & The Light embarked on their third tour of Australia last November. Reviewing the band in Sydney, Chris Familton wrote for The Music: “There wasn’t a sniff of karaoke about the performance at any point.”
