Praise Saint George Michael!

The annual, world-renowned Sydney Gay And Lesbian Mardi Gras is just a day away and news has emerged that late pop icon George Michael will be commemorated in a huge float.

As Mashable reports, the 'Saint George Michael' float will be created by the DIY Rainbow group and will feature seminal electro-pop DJ Paul Mac, a longtime friend and collaborator of Michael, playing songs by the singer all night under his Stereogamous moniker.

According to ABC, street artist Scott Marsh — infamous for his Kanye West and Mike Baird murals and most recently, a Saint George Michael mural on a wall in Sydney — will be contributing another mural of the singer as the centrepiece of the float.

Marsh tells The Music, "I was asked to paint another version of my Saint George mural for the float which I have, due to size restrictions on floats it's a bit smaller but should look great.

"I'm going to be overseas for Mardi Gras so it's a shame I won't get to see it in person," he says.

DIY Rainbow founder James Brechney says, "It's quite a spiritual creation and I'm glad I drove it down that direction. With the mural lit up it will nearly be like George is looking down on us."

The float — which will be 25th in line to head down Oxford Street among 183 others — will also feature nearly 100 dancers in 'Choose Life shirts' and policemen a la Michael's song Outside.
