20 years on.
The NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton has smashed the box office at home and abroad as well having broken a number of film records and now, thanks to the film, the hip hop group who rose to fame in the late '80s have resurged in a big way, placing throughout the top 100 of this week's ARIA Albums Chart.
NWA's 1988 debut album Straight Outta Compton made a giant leap up from last week's placing of #39 to crack the top ten and land at #8, as did the Greatest Hits compilation which came in at #9, following last week's finish of #24.
Meanwhile The Strength Of Street Knowledge: The Best Of NWA landed comfortably in the top 40 this week to take out #33.
Even more impressive is the news that solo albums made from the group's members, some made over 20 years ago, have also resurged back into the charts.

Similarly Ice Cube's Greatest Hits record burst into the charts to place at #41, while his first solo album (and the first new material to be released following his departure from NWA) AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted came in at #49 after its original release way back in 1990.
Lastly, the group's late member Eazy E also placed in the charts, with his debut Eazy Duz It, originally released in 1988, finishing at #82 this week, while his 1995 greatest hits album, Eternal placed at #71.
In a recent interview with theMusic, Ice Cube revealed his desire to reunite with the surviving members of NWA to create new music.
"Aw man, I would love it," Cube said.
