'It seems the already huge reservoir of love for the band is hitting a new level.'

More The Cure More The Cure

If you were one of the thousands of people who missed out on tickets to The Cure's upcoming shows at the Sydney Opera House, you're in luck... twice, that is.

The newly-inducted Rock & Roll Hall of Famers have announced a fifth and final concert in celebration of their seminal album Disintegration (released 30 years ago TODAY) - fans who signed up to the February ballot but were unsuccessful in securing tickets will be automatically entered into the draw to purchase tickets for the new show.

If that wasn't enough, The Cure have also announced that the fifth VIVID Live performance on 30 May will be live streamed around the globe (on Facebook and YouTube from 8pm Australian time) and directed by frequent The Cure collaborator, Nick Wickham.

"Today marks 30 years since the release of the Disintegration album - and we are very pleased to announce to Cure fans around the world that we will be global live streaming our final performance from the Sydney Opera House on May 30, where we will be performing the album in its entirety - plus extras! - at Vivid LIVE," frontman Robert Smith said.

"We look forward to celebrating the anniversary of this special album with you all... and remember: this album was mixed to be played loud… so turn it up!"

Sydney Opera House Head of Contemporary Music and Vivid LIVE Curator, Ben Marshall, added, “With The Cure’s ascension into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the overwhelming demand for tickets to their exclusive Vivid LIVE Disintegration 30th anniversary performances, it seems the already huge reservoir of love for the band is hitting a new level.

"So it’s with immense pleasure we’re announcing that The Cure’s fifth and final Disintegration performance on Thursday May 30 will be live streamed globally so fans everywhere can join in experiencing the majesty, emotion and incredible music of this remarkable celebration at Vivid Sydney."

The news comes just weeks after Smith announced The Cure will release their first album in over a decade later this year.
