Mineral Won't Rule Out Plans Beyond Reunion Shows

While nothing is in the pipeline, the seminal emo act are keeping open minds

More Mineral More Mineral

Second-wave emo* luminaries Mineral aren't saying yes to questions of whether they'll release new music following their reunion shows in the US later this year - but they're not saying no, either.

In an AMA on Reddit early this morning (AEST), frontman Chris Simpson and bassist Jeremy Gomez fielded a wide range of enquiries from fans, but an overarching theme - aside from frequent assertions that their seminal record EndSerenading (1998) was a life-changing album - was one of curiosity as to whether there would be future activity from the iconic yet short-lived band, who are currently celebrating the 20th anniversary of their inception and about to play their first major run of gigs in 17 years.

"No plans beyond these tours," they wrote in response to a question from Reddit user superninjasam97.

"But stranger things have happened. Like, for instance, Mineral getting back together. So who knows really?"

Gomez and Simpson were similarly open-ended in response to a question regarding their defunct side project, the cult indie band The Gloria Record.

"All of us Gloria Record boys are still in touch for the most part ... so while there are no plans to do anything, I wouldn't rule out the possibility," they said.

The renewed interest in Mineral has come about as a result of their recent announcement of a string of reunion shows in the States for later this year, though the AMA yielded the interesting tidbit that the members no longer even remember why the band broke up in the first place.

"It was so long ago that I can't really recall all of the details, but enough time has passed that it is all water under the bridge at this point anyway," they wrote.

"The impetus for us getting back together to play again is simple...someone asked us to do a show! Believe it or not, that hasn't really happened much over the years. When we were approached, it seemed like the right time and we all agreed to give it a shot. Fast forward to now and we have 20+ shows booked! Who knew?"

*With apologies to the members, who made it known during the AMA that they "never really cared for the term emo, but for some reason emo revival is okay". "I don't really know what it means other than that we can play shows for crowds of people now at clubs with nice sound systems," they wrote.
