Back in Brisbane and back in action

More I Heart Hiroshima More I Heart Hiroshima

It’s been a while between drinks, and even longer between solid tastes of new music from Brisbane indie-rock heroes I Heart Hiroshima.

After a prolific run of releases between 2006-2009, which included their debut album Tuff Teef and sophomore album The Rip, the trio have sparsely released singles. Now, with the return home of their drummer and main vocalist, Sully, after a lengthy time living in Berlin, the group have announced their new EP, Spillin’ The Light, will be released this Friday, 2 December.

Released back in August, their recent single Fifty Three is truly a "ragged joy of guitars and drums", as their Bandcamp page proclaims. Where their previous singles were straight-shooting, garage-infused indie-rock gems, Fifty Three feels considerably more mature; fitting, for a band that's pushing a decade old.

There’s a bolder vibe to modern I Heart Hiroshima; their signature guitar work anchored by energetic drumming is now more atmospheric, compared with the experimental indie-rock on Tuff Teef and bouncy vibes on The Rip.

As well as a new EP, their first major release since their 2011 single Washed Up, I Heart Hiroshima will be taking to the stage in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane throughout January.

The group say stay tuned “for more episodes”, so expect the Brisbane trio to be quite active in 2017.
