“I’ve wanted to do this for the last 30 years but in terms of really putting some muscle in, it all started three years ago,” Gordon said.

“There’s a magic in the air, this is an opportunity to honour the woman that have come before us that we’ve not had a chance to previously."

The AWMA’s won’t just honour the accomplishments of women in music, it will also present a series of forums and keynote speeches throughout the two days that explore and promote gender and cultural equality within the Australian music industry.

“It’s important that we have a legacy. I think we’re all tired of waiting. The support that we’ve experienced in the last two months in phenomenal, the juggernaut of men and woman that have come on board is amazing,” Gordon said.

The event will also serve as the Queensland premiere of Michelle Grace Hunder and Claudia Sangiorgi Dalimore’s Australian music documentary, Her Sound Her Story.

“The more that women demand a voice and demand to be heard, the stronger we are and I think finally history is on our side. We’re going to take this opportunity and run with it because now is the time to make that change," Gordon said.
