Sixteen years, and no signs of slowing

More Halfway More Halfway

Brisbane country-rockers Halfway have released a new single, Welcome Enemy, ahead of their June/July East Coast tour.

Their Nashville-recorded The Golden Halfway Record was released this year to critical acclaim, peaking at #2 on the ARIA Country Albums Chart and #16 on the ARIA Australian Albums Chart.

The eight-piece have been around for 16 years, but they're not slowing down or burning out any time soon. These fortysomethings are embracing their miscellaneous status — too country for hipsters, too rock for the country crowd, too old for triple j and too young for the heritage scene.

"Our songs have developed over the last 16 years because we have," principal singer-songwriter John Busby said in a statement. "When you're 19 years old, you're writing about girls, the town you're living in or the party you're going to on the weekend. Moving forward a couple of decades and not only do we have new experiences that can only come from life stages like families, careers and businesses, but you also get new perspective on who you are, where you've come from and what it all really means."

"We still write about the party we went to when we were 19, or the town we grew up in, or the characters we’ve met — but with a whole new perspective."

Halfway play Gold Coast's Broadbeach Festival on 19 June, Sydney's Newtown Social Club on 24 June and Melbourne's National Gallery of Victoria on 29 July. Tickets are on sale now.

The Golden Halfway Record is out now through ABC Music.
