The festival turns two this year, and they're throwing quite the party

Nascent Gold Coast event Shakafest returns for its second go-around this year, and organisers are staging a hell of a party to mark the occasion this August.

Once again billing itself as a shrine to the Gold Coast's street scene — hip hop, grunge, surf-rock, graffiti and skateboarding, replete with a big ol' half-pipe — Shakafest will this year be soundtracked by a raft of awesome local acts, including big names such as resurgent Aussie legends Grinspoon, beloved Brissy duo DZ Deathrays and recently returned rap vets Butterfingers.

"Shakafest aims to combine all of the Gold Coast's most-loved pastimes into one unique mini-festival by bringing together skate, a mixed-genre line-up, live graffiti and market stalls," event promoter Tamie Bennett said in a statement.

"We are creating an experience that will appeal to a diverse community on the coast, and we are happy to be the leader in such a gathering."

Also on tap will be stalwart indie crew Tired Lion, the prodigious Ivan Ooze, NSW fly-ins Goons Of Doom, Brissy indie-punk outfit WAAX and Gold Coast faves Trapdoor and Radolescent.

It all goes down at the Miami Tavern precinct on Saturday 19 August. Early-bird tickets will go on sale this coming Monday, 10 April, via Moshtix.
