The Bennies frontman Anty Horgan has issued a statement via the band’s Facebook following reports he performed at an anti-vax rally on the Gold Coast across the weekend.

As reported by Blunt, the musician was filmed performing at an anti-vax rally championed by One Nation before Pauline Hanson took to the stage.

Shortly after the initial reports, Horgan issued a statement to his Instagram, noting that he was “unhappy about a lot of the laws the government is forcing upon everyone atm”, before going on to condemn Hanson.

This morning, Horgan added: “After some discourse with people yesterday and this morning it is really obvious to me that I have upset a large portion of people.”

“In performing at the rally Pauline Hanson spoke at I have aligned myself with racism. I am truly and deeply sorry for this," he said.

“I’m so sorry for all the people I’ve upset and to anyone who has experienced racism I am truly sorry. I understand that it is a shit thing to come from a privileged white male. In the future I am going to do better at using my position and privilege to spread love to all peoples.

“I’m really not great with my words and this is hard to write – but I have learnt that I need to do more research when making political statements. Do adequate research on topics and listen to people. I hope you can believe how sincere my intentions are.”

He also asked people don’t take the "stupidity” of his decision to perform at the event out on the other members of The Bennies, stating “they had no idea” he would be attending.
