He'll be back in 2019.

Triple J Content Director Ollie Wards has stepped down from the role for the next year to see out some opportunities overseas.

As Radio Today reports, Wards wrapped up at the youth broadcaster last week and will spend the rest of the year in Europe, before relocating to New York from January.

He will return to triple j in August 2019.

"I'm working on a TrueCrime podcast that follows the active trail of an international con artist," Wards said.

"I’ll also be checking out how other music and media organisations are doing cool stuff overseas, where I’ll both shamelessly talk up how great triple j is and also import anything cool back to Australia."

Taking over the gig for the next 12 months is Lachlan Macara who most recently served as the Executive Producer for triple j Unearthed.

"After a year working abroad I feel I can confidently say there’s nothing in the world quite like triple j," Macara said.

"I’m stoked to be back steering this pack around the park the next 12 months. It’s an exciting time at the station with some big stuff in the works – One Night Stand, Hottest 100, Ausmusic Month – so I’m looking forward to getting stuck in and giving our audience more of what they love."

As well as his time  at triple j, Macara last year worked at BBC Radio 1 where he executive-produced podcasts and documentaries.
