ABC Shuts Down New Calls For A 'Recovery' Revival

ABC has ruled out a reunion for beloved cult '90s show Recovery, despite growing support from Aussie music lovers, local musos and more to bring it back.

In a statement to The Music, ABC shut down the calls, stating they were focusing on new and existing programming.

“Recovery was a brilliant show and we’re looking at ways to continue to share its archived live music content,” ABC told The Music. 

“But the ABC is focused on new concepts for music on TV and video, such as the recent Splendour In The Grass TV special on Rage and iView, the upcoming triple j One Night Stand on ABC TV, the ongoing success of triple j Like A Version on YouTube and Facebook, and some new live music plans for this year’s Ausmusic Month, which will be announced soon.”

Hopes have been high ever since the music talk show celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2016.

As Tone Deaf notes, Adelaide rockers Bad//Dreems – who featured co-host Dylan Lewis in their Recovery parody music video Feeling Remains last year – launched a petition earlier today for the ABC to bring the show back.

Co-host Jane Gazzo tweeted she had woken up to “an abnormally large amount” of tweets and Instagram notifications about a Recovery revival.

"Although it was only on air for a short time, the impact it had and the cult status it still enjoys today really amazes me,” Lewis told The Music around the show’s 20th anniversary.

“The amount of people who come up to me and want to talk about how the show shaped their lives is testament to its longevity.

“There’s also the nostalgia associated with the show. It was an exciting time in the Australian music scene.”

Woke up to an abnormally large amount of tweets and insta’s regarding Recovery -the musicTV show I used to co-host on @ABCTV with @_Dylan_Lewis_ .. seems the band @BadDreems are petitioning it to come back on TV. If only Aunty had the guts to at least agree to a one-off spesh!
