Cutting the waste.
Now just days out from the 2018 edition Splendour In The Grass, the Byron Bay festival has joined Green Music Australia's (GMA) Plastic Free July campaign, pushing to get polluting single-use plastics out of the music scene.
At this year's event, Splendour has committed to banning the use of plastic straws in all bars and stalls, encouraging punters to bring reusable bottles, providing high quality reuse stations and a three-year goal to remove all single-use plastic water bottles.
"Green initiatives have long been a part of Splendour In The Grass so we’re thrilled to work with Green Music Australia on this ongoing plan to remove single use plastics from our event," Splendour General Manager, Elise Huntley said.
Green Music Australia’s Executive Director, Tim Hollo, added, "If we’re going to get polluting plastics out of the music scene – and we all know we have to – big youth festivals have to step up and take leadership.

"It’s fantastic to see Splendour taking these important steps down that road, and we look forward to continuing to work with them as we make a plastic free music scene a reality."
The news comes after Splendour 2018 acts such as Gang Of Youths and Alex The Astronaut threw their support behind the campaign last month.
