“I completely understand that that is still no excuse for the way I spoke and I am deeply sorry for the terrible things I said that were purely out of frustration.”

Shannon Noll has taken to social media to respond after he was filmed unleashing a tirade of abuse at an audience member who allegedly threw a can during a show in Nyngan, New South Wales on Saturday night.

“During our set there were people in the audience throwing cans and bottles at the stage and after one guy threw a full can, just missing my head it really rattled me,” Noll said in a statement on Facebook.

“You don’t have a lot of deep vision into the crowd from the stage and it’s pretty scary to see something suddenly flying straight at you. We’re just doing our job and these actions are not acceptable.

Footage of the incident shows Noll threatening the alleged can thrower and his family saying “I’ll fuck your missus and your mum”.

He then goes on to say “I’ll give someone 100 bucks to punch that fuck for me”.

Fans of Noll (genuine or ironic) have commented on the statement spurring the musician on for his aggressive display. “All memes aside don’t worry mate, we all thought it was the true Aussie way to respond to some fuckwit messing with a good time,” one person commented.

Many have also pointed out the behaviour is archetypal of a culture of toxic masculinity. One commentator has described the fan support as terrifying saying she is “sick of these vile displays of machismo in my community; all they do now is terrify me”.

Another viewer has expressed her fear tweeting, “...Not only being a prick himself, but encouraging violence in others. Yet, men wonder why women can get so tense in those sorts of environments”.
