Gang Of Youths to go down in history with the first Australian MTV Unplugged!

More Gang Of Youths More Gang Of Youths

After selling out show after show on their highly anticipated Say Yes To Life tour, MTV Australia has just announced they will produce the first-ever MTV Unplugged in Melbourne with Gang of Youths.

Speaking to theMusic, bass player Max Dunn said, “It's pretty mind-blowing, like it is pretty cool.

"Get to make songs sound a certain way and give people a more genuine experience of the melody.”

Since its debut in 1989, MTV Unplugged has been a cultural landmark of unforgettable musical moments. Gang of Youths will be following in the footsteps of seminal performances from the likes of Nirvana, Bruce Springsteen and Eric Clapton.

“Should we just play Springsteen? Like only play Springsteen covers," Dunn joked.

"Wait but cover his Unplugged. Literally do exactly what he did.”

Looking forward to stripping the songs back, Dunn said, “It’s just the moment.

"I hear these songs usually for the first time on acoustic, you know? And so when you hear Radioface and that melody, and you’re sitting in a garage and you’re 22 — then you hear that song and shit those are the kind of moments that are created when you hear a song in its purest form.

"Like honestly that’s probably my favourite memory of hearing a Gang of Youths song, when [front man David Le'aupepe] played Radioface for the first time. And it’s not even my favourite GOY song! It’s just that moment – hearing that chorus. There’s something really pure about it.”

Hoping to share that moment with fans, the first MTV Unplugged Melbourne will broadcast later this year with additional artists and the premiere date to be announced soon.
