NSW Police Taken To Court Over Threats To Ban Punters From Sydney Dance Event

The Australian Greens party has revealed it is taking NSW police to court this week after authorities announced punters heading to Above & Beyond's show in Sydney this weekend will be denied entry if a sniffer dog makes any indication they have or have had drugs on their person.

The Greens' 'Sniff Off' initiative is now rallying for public support to seek an injunction against NSW police in the Supreme Court.

"Drug dogs don't find drugs in 75% of searches, so for police to refuse entry to ANYONE given a drug dog indication is a gross abuse of police powers and a vicious attack on civil liberties," a statement posted to Facebook on Wednesday reads.

"That's why we're taking the NSW Police Force to court this Friday."

Though the target goal was originally set at $900, an overwhelming amount of donations has resulted in over $5,000 already being raised.

Promoters of the Above & Beyond shows, Symbiotic, have assured any punter denied entry to the show at Sydney Showground on Saturday night will receive a full refund. 

It follows last month's Midnight Mafia rave in Sydney, where some attendees allege they were denied entry despite failed drug searches by police.
