Australia’s first-ever pill-testing trial will take place this weekend.
Australia’s first-ever pill-testing trial will take place this weekend at the Canberra leg of Groovin The Moo.
As ABC reports, the ACT Government has given promoter Cattleyard approval following lobbying by pill-testing advocates and lengthy negotiations.
The testing will be done by STA-SAFE and punters who take part in it will remain anonymous, with the independent group collecting and passing on information about drug habits to authorities to assist in developing new policies.
The tests will let festivalgoers know what chemicals are in their drugs and the potential side effects of taking them.

The approval from the State Government comes a month after a former police officer and the venue, University of Canberra, threw their support behind pill testing at Groovin The Moo.
Last year, another Canberra festival, Spilt Milk, was scheduled to trial pill testing, but was forced to cancel it before the event.
Groovin The Moo Canberra will take place this Sunday with Royal Blood, Paul Kelly, Duke Dumont, Vera Blue and more in tow; check out theGuide for all the details.
