'Refunds?'
Twitter has lit up with fury over the 2018 Commonwealth Games closing ceremony, held last night on the Gold Coast.
As ABC reports, organisers have come under fire for the decision not to include the traditional broadcast of athletes entering the ceremony, featuring long, rambling speeches and confusing performances.
After Channel Seven commentators Johanna Griggs and Basil Zempilas vocally criticised the ceremony on live television, Commonwealth Games chairman Peter Beattie took to twitter this morning to admit the follies of the event.
The speeches were too many and too long. I was part of that and I acknowledge it. Again, we got that wrong.#gc2018

The lack of focus on the athletes wasn't the only thing that left people unsatisfied with punters criticising the confusing musical performances and Double J's Zan Rowe calling out Channel Seven for not focusing on the acts in their broadcast.

Hey Channel 7 how about you show the women playing and singing while they play and sing? The dancers are great but y'know...

Shout outs to @kirapuru, Kate Cebrano, and whomever else was on stage in that awesome display of female musicianship that the live editor didn't care to show at all. SMH.

The organisers of the closing ceremony decided to break with tradition and arranged for the athletes to enter the stadium before the start of the ceremony. #GC2018 pic.twitter.com/5DQFSGBTaB

Sooo where are the inspirational and uplifting songs with meaning to celebrate ATHLETES? This whole ceremony makes no sense and has no relevance to the athletes achievements over the last 11 days??? Pitiful and embarrassing ... sorry world #ClosingCeremony

Good on the producers for not folding to public pressure to make the closing ceremony entertaining. #CommonwealthGames2018 #CommonwealthGames #ClosingCeremony
